Status Update from Karla Colman

by Karla Colman

Good morning friends,

The last few months have been quite a whirlwind with our Moms in Need.  Thank you for the wonderful attendance at our previous meeting.  We were able to dissect our strengths and weaknesses, make decisions on how to proceed with future endeavors, and enjoyed a wonderful presentation and discussion with our friends from 40 Days for Life.  We were especially happy to see some of our young people from the parish join us.  God is good . . . all the time, and we give praise and thanks for all of you.

A little boy is alive today thanks to a life-saving surgery that took place when he was a newborn.

After suffering four miscarriages, Jamaal and Yadi Martin were overjoyed to hear a heartbeat with baby number five — a milestone they’d never before reached. But that joy soon turned to worry, when later in the pregnancy they were told that their preborn child had a life-limiting condition that would make it nearly impossible to survive past birth.

“The doctor said, ‘He has very large lungs for this far into this pregnancy. It’s abnormally large. And I think this is something called CHAOS,’” Yadi told TODAY.

A family in Illinois is celebrating in a big way now that their 18-month-old preemie is finally able to go home after spending her entire young life in the hospital.

Little Autumn was born in March 2021 at just 23 weeks gestation. At the time, she weighed just 1.1 pounds and had a number of medical complications, including bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), a type of chronic lung disease. Doctors gave the tiny preemie a 50% chance of survival.

“When a patient is about to deliver at 23 weeks, we know that [the baby’s] survival is about 50% … and so Autumn was given a 50-50 chance of survival when she was first delivered,” Dr.

Hormonal birth control is often recommended to women as a way for them to take control of their sexuality by avoiding pregnancy. Yet there is no denying that women are rarely given all the information needed to make an informed choice about using hormonal birth control. And now, more women are coming forward with the horrific side effects they’ve experienced.

19-year-old Sydney Marshall shared her story on TikTok of how birth control led her to develop a blood clot that traveled to her brain, landing her in the hospital. Marshall said her symptoms began with a slight headache but she found no relief with over-the-counter medication.

Study: Christianity may lose majority, plurality status in U.S. by 2070

WASHINGTON (CNS) — If trends of the past 30 years continue for the next 50, Christianity will lose its majority status in the United States by 2070, according to a new demographic study by the Pew Research Center.

If those trends, first identified in 1990, accelerate over the next half-century, Christianity will have fewer adherents than Americans who are not affiliated with any church, according to the study, “Modeling the Future of Religion in America,” released Sept. 13.

Even with the demographic modeling used by Pew, the numbers vary widely. Christians, put by Pew currently at 64% of the U.S. population, could slide to 54% — or plunge to 35% — by 2070.
