Parents of teens who died by suicide share grief and advice

CBS News is committed to stopping the stigma surrounding mental health, taking the shame and blame out of discussing mental illness. The White Rose – The symbol of our opposition to euthanasia.

The White Rose – The symbol of our opposition to euthanasia.

Alex Schadenberg
Executive Director, Euthanasia Prevention Coalition

Many people have asked why the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition uses the white rose as its symbol. You may have heard about the White Rose campaign composed mainly of students in Munich who resisted the Nazi regime and whose leaders were killed on February 22, 1943.

Most of you will not be aware that opposition to the Nazi T-4 euthanasia program influenced the formation of the White Rose campaign

Hans & Sophie Scholl

Some research suggests that Hans and Sophie Scholl heard the sermon by Bishop von Galen, the Bishop of Muenster, who on August 3, 1941, challenged the killing of people with disabilities by euthanasia.

Bishop: No Communion for Pro-Abortion Politicians Who “Reject Fundamental Teachings of the Church”

Two Catholic bishops urged the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops this week not to delay plans to create a new document to give guidance about Communion and Catholic politicians who openly advocate for the killing of unborn babies.

The Catholic News Agency reports Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco and Archbishop Samuel Aquila of Denver lamented that some bishops want to postpone action on the document.

“I’m deeply grieved by the rising public acrimony among bishops and the adoption of behind-closed-doors maneuvers to interfere with the accepted, normal, agreed-upon procedures of the USCCB,” Cordileone told CNA in a statement Tuesday.

He said the bishops should have an open debate about the matter, and he criticized attempts to “derail the process.”

Alabama Gov Kay Ivey Signs Bill to Stop Infanticide, Protect Babies Born Alive After Botched Abortions

Alabama Gov Kay Ivey Signs Bill to Stop Infanticide, Protect Babies Born Alive After Botched Abortions

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey has signed a pro-life bill to stop infanticide that would require appropriate medical care and treatment for babies who survive abortions. The new legislation was inspired by a woman named Gianna Jessen who survived an abortion attempt on her life.

Gianna’s Law (House Bill 237) passed by a strong majority in a 76-12 vote earlier this month and the Senate followed suit with its own approval.

Today, Governor Ivey signed it into law.

The bill says that if an infant is born alive after an attempted abortion, the doctor “shall exercise the same degree of professional skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as a reasonably diligent and conscientious physician would render to any other child born alive at any other location in this state at the same gestational age.”

SBA List Launches Initial $2 Million TV Ad Campaign in Response to Landmark Abortion Case

“The science is simple: unborn children are human beings and deserve protection,” said SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser. “By 15 weeks, children in the womb have fully formed noses and lips, eyelids and eyebrows; they can suck their thumb, and even feel pain. Across the country, state lawmakers acting on the will of the people have introduced nearly 550 pro-life bills – 70 already enacted so far this year – aimed at recognizing these facts and humanizing our laws. We are eager to further educate the nation about these realities and are hopeful that the law will soon catch up to the science.”

Simone Biles, former foster child, becomes first woman to land a Yurchenko double pike vault

Simone Biles, World Champion and Olympic gold medal gymnast, made history on May 22, 2021, when she became the first woman in history to land a Yurchenko double pike vault. The 24-year-old American gymnast competed at the U.S. Classic in Indianapolis on Saturday, landing the difficult move and walking away with the all-around title. Saturday also marked Biles’ first competition since October of 2019.

The Yurchenko double pike has a 6.6 difficulty score and required Biles to sprint down a runway, perform a roundoff onto a takeoff board, execute a back handspring with a half-twist onto a vault, double somersault off the vault, and land in a piked position.

Texas Legislature Passes Bill to Ban Abortions, Legally Protecting Every Unborn Baby

Texas Legislature Passes Bill to Ban Abortions, Legally Protecting Every Unborn Baby

Pro-lifers celebrated the passage of another pro-life bill in Texas on Tuesday, one that would completely ban abortions as soon as the U.S. Supreme Court allows states to do so.

The Texas Senate passed the Human Life Protection Act (House Bill 1280) in a 19-12 vote; now it heads to Gov. Greg Abbott’s desk.

“We are extremely pleased at the passage of HB 1280,” said Dr. Joe Pojman, executive director of Texas Alliance for Life. “To whatever extent the Supreme Court allows states to protect unborn babies from abortion — whether at 15 weeks, six weeks, or at conception — the Human Life Protection Act will go into effect to the same extent.”

Abortion industry, supporters smear Texas heartbeat bill as ‘diabolical’ ‘assault’

The abortion industry is coming out swinging against the recently passed heartbeat bill in Texas. Under the new law, which was signed by Gov. Greg Abbott last week, elective abortions are not allowed after a preborn child’s heartbeat can be detected. And abortion activists are wasting no time condemning it.

The Biden administration attacked the new law in a press conference, in which White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki reminded Americans of Biden’s unwavering support for abortion. “This is the most restrictive measure yet in the nation, and the most restrictive, recent assault on women’s fundamental rights under Roe v.

Baby Born at 24 Weeks With Feet the Size of a Penny Defies the Odds, Now Shes Walking

Baby Born at 24 Weeks With Feet the Size of a Penny Defies the Odds, Now Shes Walking

Doctors told Francesca Bradley-Curran’s parents that she never would walk or talk.

Born prematurely after just 24 weeks of pregnancy, the tiny British girl had feet the size of a penny and a slim chance of survival, The Epoch Times reports.

But she did survive, and, five years later, she is both walking and talking, her parents said.

“It’s crazy to think that the doctors told us even if she did survive she would never walk or talk, but now we can’t get her to sit still or be quiet,” her mother, Victoria Bradley, said.

When Francesca was born, she weighed only 1 pound, 6 ounces, according to the report.

Terminally Ill Dying Out of Hopelessness and Abandonment.

Terminally Ill Dying Out of Hopelessness and Abandonment.

Alex Schadenberg
Executive Director, Euthanasia Prevention Coalition

Dr Chris Perry

Daniel Tang, reported for the Epoch Times that Dr Chris Perry, the President of the Queensland Australia Medical Association warned Queensland legislators who are debating euthanasia that terminally ill patients choose to “take poison” and die out of hopelessness or abandonment.

Tang reporting on a press conference stated:

Dr. Chris Perry said the euthanasia experience in Victoria, Canada, and Oregon in the United States—one of the earliest jurisdictions to legalise the practice—saw many candidates choose euthanasia because they felt trapped or incapacitated.

Perry stated that killing people who feel hopeless and neglected is not right:

“So, it’s not the right way to treat human beings; we should be treating human beings as we’d like to be treated with dignity and respect,”

“You don’t want people being feeling hopeless, and being neglected, not being well cared for, and ending up taking a drink which will result in them dying in 20 to 30 minutes,”

The Queensland government will likely vote on a bill to legalize euthanasia this week.

Aborting People With Down Syndrome Deprives Our Society of Love And Joy

On November 8, 2020, Chris Nikic became the first man with Down syndrome to complete an Ironman Triathlon. An Ironman consists of a 2.4-mile open-water swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run — a full marathon. It’s an endurance test that less than 0.003 percent of able-bodied Americans can complete.

When asked why Chris became interested in the triathlon, his parents responded, “Ever since Chris was born, the doctors have told us that he’d never walk, that he’d never make friends, that he’d be confined to bed all day, and that his life would be miserable. Chris showed them that those were lies.”

Pro-Life Mom’s Tweet Goes Viral on Twitter: “Let’s Share Stories of Kindness, I’ll Start.”

As a social media platform, Twitter is regularly wielded as a political battleground and debate forum. But it also presents an opportunity to inspire kindness and encourage heroic actions – actions that reveal the goodness of humanity.

Joanne Mason – a self-identified Christian wife, mother, and daughter – recently took that opportunity when she asked others on Twitter to share their personal “stories of kindness.” She started with her own: She remembered when she once “burst into tears” in public after her brother died. Her tears moved an “elderly gentleman” to reach out, hold her hand, and sit with her. Hundreds of tweeters responded to Joanne’s story, many of whom shared heartwarming stories of their own.

She Took the Abortion Pill and Regretted It, Amazingly a Doctor Was Able to Save Her Baby

Abortion backers made good on their threat to sue the state of Indiana over a law ensuring informed consent on abortion pill reversal (APR) for women seeking chemical abortion, but one mom who successfully reversed her chemical abortion is grateful for her child and told Indiana lawmakers so.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) signed HB 1577/HEA 1577 into law Apr. 29 after the bill made its way through the state’s legislature earlier this spring. The law requires doctors that provide abortion to notify women pursuing chemical abortion that it may be possible to reverse the abortion drug’s effects should they change their mind before taking the second set of drugs.

Baroness Ilora Finlay

Baroness Ilora Finlay, who is a doctor, a professor of palliative medicine and a British House of Lords cross bench member, wrote an excellent article that was published by The House on May 20. Finlay, who for many years has promoted palliative care and opposed assisted suicide responded to a new push, in the UK, to legalize assisted suicide.

Finlay wrote:

The House of Lords is once again being asked to look at a Private Member’s Bill proposing so-called ‘assisted dying’. Words matter. They can inform or they can mislead. In this case it’s the latter.

AMAZING: Woman has fostered 81 newborns over past three decades

Linda Owens, a 78-year-old retired human resources manager from Hayward, California, has served as a foster mother to 81 infants over the last 34 years. “What I do comes from my heart for every fragile infant who needs a good start in life,” Owens said, according to a report by the Washington Post.

Her first foster baby came to her in 1987 from Alameda County Department of Children and Family Services in Northern California. Since then, she has taken in several newborns each year. Often, the infants have been exposed to drugs in their mothers’ wombs, so they remain with Owens under court orders until a judge determines they can be reunited with their parents or they are adopted.
